A Christian
Several years ago,
a preacher from out-of-state
accepted a call to a church in Houston, Texas. Some weeks after
he arrived, he had an occasion to ride the
bus from his home to the downtown area. When he sat down, he
discovered that the driver had accidentally given him a quarter
too much change. As he considered what to do, he thought
to himself, 'You'd better give the quarter back. It would
be wrong to keep it.' Then he thought, 'Oh, forget it, it's only a quarter. Who would worry about this little amount?
Anyway, the bus company gets too much fare; they will
never miss it. Accept it as a 'gift from God' and keep quiet.'
When his stop came, he paused momentarily at the
door, and then he handed the quarter to the driver and said,
'Here, you gave me too much change ...'
The driver, with a smile,
replied, 'Aren't you the new preacher in town?'
|
'Yes'
he replied.
'Well, I have been thinking a lot lately about going somewhere to
worship. I just wanted to see what you would do if I gave you too
much change. I'll see you at church on Sunday.'
When the preacher stepped off of the bus, he literally grabbed the
nearest light pole, held on, and said, 'Oh God, I almost sold your
Son for a quarter.'
Our lives are the only Bible some people will ever read. This is a
really scary example of how much people watch us as Christians, and
will put us to the test! Always be on guard -- and remember -- You
carry the name of Christ on your shoulders when you call
yourself ’Christian.'
Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.
God bless you.

Smiles
I dialed a number and got the following recording:
"I am not available right now, but
Thank you for caring enough to call.
I am making some changes in my life.
Please leave a message after the
Beep. If I do not return your call,
You are one of the changes."

The quote of the month is by Jay Leno:
"With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding,
severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and
with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, "Are we sure this is
a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?"

Gone
From My Sight
by
Henry Van Dyke
I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white
sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean.
She is an
object of beauty and strength, and I stand and watch until at last she
hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to
mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says, "There she
goes!"
Gone where? Gone from my sight ... that is all. She is just as large in
mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and just as able
to bear her load of living freight to the place of destination. Her
diminished size is in me, not in her.
And just at the moment when someone
at my side says, "there she goes!", there are other eyes
watching her coming and other voices ready to take up the glad shout,
"Here she comes!"
And that is dying.
May today there be peace
within you.
May you trust God that you are exactly where
you are meant to be.
"I believe that friends are quiet angels who lift us to our feet when
our wings have trouble remembering how to fly."
