If you live in our community, we covet your membership in
the Aldersgate United Methodist Church. You may do this in one of several
ways:
By Profession of Faith and Baptism
If you have not been baptized and you would like to
confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, the Pastor will be glad to
discuss this decision with you in your home or his study at your
convenience.
If you have been baptized, but you have never had
membership in the Church, you may be confirmed as a full member,
professing your faith in Jesus Christ.
By Transfer from Another United
Methodist Church
Simply mark the Pew Pad or Visitor Information Card
"Wish To Join" column. The Pastor will then get in touch with
you. Or you may ask him, "Please write for my letter." It is not
necessary for you to write your former church. Aldersgate will handle the
details of transfer for you.
By Transfer from Another Christian
Denomination
This process is very much like the one above. Since you
have already been baptized and confirmed, these steps will not be
repeated. You will be asked to take the one vow taken by all members of
the United Methodist Church: Will you be loyal to the United Methodist
Church and uphold it with your prayers, your presence, your gifts, and
your service?
By Transfer From a Denomination That
Will Not Accept Transfers Across Denominational Lines
Your baptism is accepted. You will be received by transfer
without the letter. See page 38 of the Methodist Hymnal.
In any of the above cases, the Pastor will be the one to
receive you and obtain your transfer or discuss your profession of faith
and/or baptism.
