New
Baby Ministry

The Membership and Evangelism Committee has a new group under their direction, the New Baby Ministry. Because so many new families are quite a distance from their extended families these days, We want to offer new parents the support of the Aldersgate church family.

Members of the committee are Holly Fishback, Cindy Jones, Evelyn Johnson, Robin Thomas, Mary Taylor and Kathy Chmielewski. We will be in touch with the expectant mother during her pregnancy to make sure everything is proceeding well. Once the baby has arrived, we will check-in on the new family with a gift bag and a visit, in addition to placing the single rose on the altar. We would like to provide a meal or two for the family and give the new parents an opportunity to have some time to themselves by offering a sitter for an evening out.

We would like to offer the congregation the opportunity to participate in this outreach to our new families. If you would like to be on a call list to provide a meal to a new family or to care for one of the new babies for an evening, please contact a member of the committee. We can provide you with additional information.

We will also be collecting coupons for baby items that new parents use regularly. If you are a coupon clipper, cut out those coupons for formula, diapers, baby foods or Toys R Us products and place them in the envelope in the literature rack in the Narthex.

2011
Community Christmas
Outreach

During the Christmas Season, there are Durham community needs highlighted by several outreach programs that have become very familiar to each of us at Aldersgate:

  • Reindeer Store

  • Share Your Christmas

Again this year both of these programs will be referred to and displayed in the Narthex as "Aldersgate's Community Christmas Outreach." Your contributions through Christmas gifts and monetary gifts can be directed through the programs of your choice. On Sunday, November 21st, look for the Outreach display in the Narthex. At that time, all of us will have the opportunity to share our good fortunes with those who are less fortunate residing in our community. Checks for monetary gifts may be made out to Aldersgate UMC with the program of your choice specified on your check. Below is a brief description of each of the programs:

         Reindeer Store will provide gifts.

Share Your Christmas brings Christmas gifts to needy families identified by the Durham County Department of Social Services and Oxford Manor Housing Project. Typically the families are single parents with 2 to as many as 8 children. Needed clothing items are indicated for each person. The Durham Social Services Department suggests gifts (clothing and a toy for children) not to exceed $45.00 per family member. In addition, contributions of $50.00 cash will supply each family with a Christmas Food Basket. Gifts & food baskets will be distributed by the Aldersgate United Methodist Men on Sunday, December 12th, following Worship services.
