Lay Ministry at Aldersgate
A church is not a
building, a church is not a steeple, a church is a people!
|
The warm and friendly atmosphere at
Aldersgate United Methodist Church is due to the congregation itself. Many
volunteers spend their time, gifts and talents ensuring that each Worship service runs
smoothly. If you would like to know more about serving in one of
these very important church ministries, please
contact the church
office.

Greeters and Ushers
Greeters are special people who take a few extra minutes
before and after services to say hello to worshipers, answer question, and
help with directions. If you are at ease meeting people and eager to
help folks feel welcome, greeting may be the ministry for you.
Ushers
serve an important role in the church
services. It is an usher's job to make sure all guests can find a
seat, are comfortable, and assist with any special needs. Ushers are
also key in preparing the sanctuary for worship services. An usher
must come prepared with a servant's heart.

Acolytes
Acolytes are youths between 4th and 6th grade
who have attended special training to learn the meaning of carrying the
flame into and going forth from worship. Their training teaches them
how to bring the flame of His presence into the sanctuary in a reverent
and meaningful manner in order to begin the service, and how to take His
light into the world at the conclusion of the service.

Altar Guild
The altar guild's job is to prepare the sanctuary for worship
services. Their many tasks include altar maintenance
and preparing
the implements for holy communion.
|
Lay Readers
Our lay readers
offer the pulpit greeting on Sunday mornings, lead the congregation in
opening hymns and prayer, and read the
scriptures at the appointed times. They
assist the minister in serving from the Lord's
Table on Communion Sundays. |
