Paving Paths

In ancient times if a king was going to see his people, the roads which were

treacherous were fixed. The holes were filled in so the king could connect with

his people. Isaiah talks about preparing the way of the Lord in the familiar

verse…

Every valley shall be lifted up and every mountain and hill be made low. The

uneven ground shall become level and rough places plain.

Later in Isaiah God says: I will go before you and level the exalted places. I

will break in pieces the doors of bronze and cut through the bars of iron. By

paving paths, we are helping us all to connect with God and breaking down

barriers for us to become true disciples of Christ.

In 1956, 34 charter members responded to God’s calling and boldly had a

vision of a new methodist congregation in a former dance hall that was then way

out in the country. That vision led to chartering Aldersgate Methodist Church on

January 8, 1956. That vision along with hard work paved a path to making

disciples and growing that dance hall church into this church we have today.

Presently, we continue that vision and pave paths for people connecting,

knowing, loving, and growing. We pave paths for our youth to discover a

relationship with Christ. We pave paths for people to deal with grief, to fight

hunger, to deal with the pain of divorce, addiction, care taking, and loneliness.

We pave paths for us to be the people we want to be and the people God wants us

to be.
