70th Event This Sunday, August 30th!
Join us this Sunday for our next 70th anniversary celebration here at Aldersgate. We will have one service at 10:30 a.m. followed by a covered dish lunch in the Family Life Center (FLC) gym. This will be our final day collecting new men’s underwear and full sized backpacks to help our local community members experiencing homelessness. You can drop off your donations in the blue bin outside our front office throughout the week. Let's close out this mission project strong! We hope you will join us this Sunday for a fun celebration!
Office Volunteer Needed!
Aldersgate is looking for a volunteer to consistently help work in the front office on Mondays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. You will be working with our wonderful Communications Director, Jonathan Hudson. Main tasks include answering the phone and greeting guests at the door.

Chancel Choir Resumes September 2nd
Do you love to sing? The AUMC Chancel Choir is getting ready to begin a new season this fall, and we’d love to have you join us! Come share your voice, make new friends, and learn vocal and musical techniques, and help lead our congregation in worship.
Rehearsals are held from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. each Wednesday in the sanctuary, with our first meeting taking place on September 2nd. If you are interested (or if you need some gentle encouragement), please reach out to Henry Branson at
henry@aldersgate.org to set up a meeting. There’s no formal audition, but this is a chance to get acquainted, learn more about the choir, and find out how your voice might best fit into the ensemble. Whether you’re an experienced singer or simply love to sing, we hope you will consider sharing your musical gifts with us!

Will begin!
Our Children’s Sunday School classes will be for our kiddos from Pre-K through 6th grade. Confirmation will be for our 7th grade and up youth. Additional youth and young adults who would like to come we would love your help in our classrooms.
Nursery will also be provided throughout the morning. Additionally, there will be
two new adult Sunday School classes added to the three established classes.

Tuesday Morning Bible Class
Tuesdays, 6:30 a.m. Wesley Room
The Tuesday Morning Bible Class (TMBC) is starting a new study on September 1st. What does it mean to "seek first the kingdom of God" in our relationships, values, ambitions, finances, and commitments?
Jesus' answer to these questions amazed those who first heard the Sermon on the Mount. In this twelve-session LifeGuide Bible Study, you'll dig deep into his startling and challenging message—the greatest sermon ever preached.
Our Tuesday Morning Bible Study (aka TMBC) will begin a new book on Tuesday, September 1 at 6:30 a.m. in the Wesley Room.
We will be using “Sermon on the Mount” by John Stott to help guide our discussions. Books are available in our class. Come join us.

Thank You Feed My Flock & Others
Thank you to all of our incredible members who helped with the meal for the family after Linda Shaffer's service this past Saturday! The meal was fantastic. We appreciate our wonderful helpful community always jumping in to help with all occassions.
AUMC 70th - Did You Know?
During the “wilderness” year when we were sharing space with the Wesleyan Church on Massey Road, we had our worship service at 10:00 am. Sunday School took place at 11:00 am while the Wesleyan Church had their worship service in the sanctuary. Sunday School attendance increased, so we continued that same schedule in the new church.
R Wave Respite

Fun, Games, Socialization, and a hot lunch included
Respite meets every Monday 10am-2pm.
The R Wave Support Group meets on the first and third Mondays of every month at 10:30 a.m. in room 207 of the FLC. Their next meeting is on Monday, August 31st.
R Wave continues their amazing work every week and is excited to share some new updates:
R Wave will be celebrating their 20th successful meeting in July!
R Wave currently has 14 participants, 30+ volunteers in the respite, 8 volunteers in the kitchen. New volunteers are always welcome!
Our first ‘Friends Cafe’ was held on Saturday, June 27 and was very successful. The Friends Cafe had 18 attendees people, including four new couples, two from Mt. Sylvan UMC, and one from Jewish for Good.

- Duke HomeCare and Hospice will be presenting a seminar about non-profit vs for profit hospice care, what services Duke Hospice provides, eligibility for hospice, Medicare benefits of hospice, and grief counseling. We have reached out to 18 local churches about R Wave being a community ministry. Thanks for your continued support of this important ministry at AUMC.

AUMC Soccer
Thursday night soccer is back in the FLC gym – want to join us? It’s open to anyone 13 and older, and you don’t have to be a soccer pro just to have fun and play.

Aldersgate Sunday School
Aldersgate UMC offers three adult sunday school classes on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. in the Family Life Center.

For the next few weeks the LIFT class will be taking a deeper dive into Pastor Steve’s weekly sermons and reflecting on how we can better follow Jesus in our daily life.
All are welcome to attend!
The Outbackers Sunday school class is studying study the book “The Walk” by Rev. Adam Hamilton. Walking is often used in scripture as a way of speaking about our life with God.
This study explores five essential practices used to positively impact one’s spiritual health.
Two new adult Sunday School classes and children's Sunday School will begin on Sunday, September 13th!

Community Pickleball
Join us in the FLC Gym on Tuesday, August 25th from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. for community pickleball. Play games or volley back-and-forth with friends. Grab a paddle and come join us for a fun evening!
UMM Monthly Food and Fellowship
Join the United Methodist this Tuesday, August 25th for food and fellowship at 6:00 p.m. at Dogwood Grill in the Riverview shopping center.
Keto Support Group
With the help of Dr. Eric Westman from Duke, we coordinated A keto support group for both members and nonmembers of the church. This group meets the first Monday of every month from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the FLC Gym. Come join this great group!
AUMC Photos
Since the first of the year, an additional 300 new entries have been added to the Aldersgate online photo album. Additions to the Missions, Youth, and Events folders have brought the total count of photos to over 3,000.
