Five-Talent Stories - Eileen Hartwell

During our 5 Talent worship experience we invited the people of Aldersgate to share some of their God Story.

Eileen Hartwell: When my son was in his senior year of college (last semester), he called me one morning to confess that he had gotten a DUI the previous night. His blood alcohol was over the limit which would have allowed some leniency. Rather, he was going to be required to give up his license for 3 months, get a lawyer, and do many hours of community service. In addition, this was during 2008 (recession year), and he was soon to enter the job market. All bad.
Of course, we supported him emotionally, but we also knew he would have to go through this and come out on the other side having learned a valuable life lesson. We drove to his school the next day to take his car, and we told him that since he was legally an adult and this was HIS ticket and not ours, he would have to procure a court-appointed lawyer to represent him in court..which he did.
Knowing all of this completely dominated my thoughts with worry for several days. Of course I cried and worried and cried and worried. How would he ever get a job knowing that he had a DUI on his record, and it would remain there for SEVEN YEARS!!
About 3 days after this bomb hit, I was in bed one night worrying and crying. Finally, I lifted my arms in the air toward Heaven and said to God, “God, please take this worry and pain from me. I can’t carry it and be the support I need to be for my son.” I then put my arms down by my side with my palms up and IMMEDIATELY felt a warmth in the center of my palms, as if something was being drawn upward. I knew that God had heard me and was lifting this pain and worry from me.
I slept like a baby that night and never worried or cried again because I KNEW that God had this, and everything was going to work out. And it did.
