Five-Talent Stories - Debbie Sykes
During our 5 Talent worship experience we invited the people of Aldersgate to share some of their God Story.
Debbie Sykes: I have several stories of faith and witness to God’s love and joy; miracles. This one is abbreviated below, but significant.
About 20 years ago, my life and the lives of my family were impacted greatly. Within a year’s time my cousin died in Germany from leukemia.
My father was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. My brother’s daughter and granddaughter were killed in an automobile accident. The next month we had the wedding of my daughter. In December, there was excitement over the announcement of the pregnancy and future birth of our first grandchild.
Two months later, my father had major surgery to remove his esophagus, chemo, radiation, etc. Life/death daily struggles came with this surgery. Most don’t survive long after this very complex surgery.
Then in April, our son-in-law was in a horrible automobile accident. Word on the street was that most could not believe that he or his boss survived. He boss was thrown from the driver’s seat. My son-in-law was trapped inside after the car rolled over and over many times. The “jaws of life” had to be used to free him from the car. Bobby spent a while in the hospital with numerous severe injuries and a pregnant wife by his side. His friends kept telling Johnny and I about the car and what it looked like. They would continue to tell us to go see it.
A few weeks after he was released from the hospital, we decided it was time. So, we went to the location of the totaled car. We could not believe what we saw.
The car was a little sports car. It was almost mashed flat. The seat where Bobby sat looked like a bird’s nest…maybe big enough to hold a very small infant. You see, Bobby is six feet tall and about 180 lbs. No way that his body could have survived the impact. But…I know that God cradled him in his arms in that tight nest of a seat. There is no other answer but to know that God performed a miracle that day. We are so thankful.
